Art Education – Inculcating and encouraging creative thinking
A session on “Art Education – Inculcating and encouraging creative thinking” was conducted by Mr.Yadvendra Singh in Grade I Maple class at Paul George Global School on 21st May 2015 Mr. Yadvendra Singh has done his Bachelors and Masters from College of Art, Delhi University. He has made a documentary movie with the help of Korean Broadcasting System as an Assistant Director in cinematography. He has also worked with Korean Vogue Magazine and assisted Mr. Kim In Do who is the lead photographer of Vogue. He is currently the Art Teacher with Paul George Global School. The goal of the workshop was to explain and inform about art education. Workshop Description The workshop commenced with Mr.Yadvendra explaining the essence of Art and taking us through the journey of art world through lot of activity based learning. He said that mother is the best creator of creativity hence the session started with a small prayer dedicated to our mothers. “Drawing is a kind of hypnotism” said Pablo Picasso. The participants were transported to a different realm of the world as they were encouraged to draw anything they desire in a contemporary form of art and express what they wished to according to the topic given to them. They emotions of each participant overflowed in their artwork. The collage made out of the same artwork also expressed their sentiments, desires and dreams they wanted to follow in their life. The workshop was indeed very knowledgeable, creative and informative. The key learning from this workshop was:
- Relationship of art with a child is basically communicating through images. Hence art becomes the medium of education.
- We learnt about the different schools of art and the famous artists of a particular era.
- Knowledge on Indian art was highlighted.
